Hello? Eeeerr’s some of the best events in Cornwall this November!

As we trundle into November, autumn is coming to an end and the air’s got its bite back. It’s been chewing greedily on my feet this week as I’ve been padding around the freezing barn (I’ve lost my slippers). Fallen leaves are now everywhere, making either a) crispy piles of fun just begging to be kicked with a flourish or b) flat, slippery suckers lying in wait for the smooth sole of your boot, followed by your arse.

It might seem like a good idea to stay in with the central heating on, watching Netflix and sipping on a mug of hot chocolate. However, it’s only just November and you have ALL of December to get fat. So, check out the amazing films and comedy that take centre stage this month and get yourself out at least once to one of these awesome sounding November events.

Film

Cornwall Film Festival (5th – 13th)

Location: the Poly and Newlyn Film House.

Film the Cornish film festival at the poly and newlyn film house on a wilder life blog

There are some amazing and award winning independent films showing this year, with different films shown throughout the day between the 5th and 12 of November. It’s really hard to find independent films shown in Cornwall, and this is one of the only chances we’ll get to see some of the most talented filmmaking talent from around the world. You can check out (and watch trailers) of the films showing in Newlyn Film House from the 11-th 13th November here.

All the films look brilliant, but I’m getting tickets for Argentinian film, The Clan and the New Zealand film, Hunt For The Wilderpeople.

After winning BBC New Comedian Award at the Edinborough Fringe way back in 1996, Brigstocke has gone on to become one of the UK’s top comedians, performing sell-out gigs at venues across the UK and internationally. As well as being a regular on BBC 4 he’s also been a guest on TV shows like Have I Got News For You and 11 O Clock Show.

“Intelligent, dark, subtle stuff” – The Observer

“….. charming, hilarious and utterly refreshing” – Sunday Mirror

“Rare is the stand-up show that makes you laugh, think and then fight back the tears. This is it***** – Daily Telegraph

This folky duo shone out in a sea of cheesy tribute acts. Gareth Lee and Anne Baylis create well formed, soaring contemporary folk music with chilled harmonies and a paired down style. This will be a full evening of live music with the duo performing tracks from “A Little Light” their debut EP and also their newest record “Future Writer”.

“‘It’s a real pleasure to champion such fine talent, these are a duo you really want to keep an eye on’ Alex Gallacher, Folk Radio UK.” Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 7:30.

Dance

Lila Dance : The Deluge (11th – 19th)

Location: Portreath Village Hall

Lila, dance, Cornwall, what's on in cornwall, a wilder life blog

I love watching powerful dance performances and this one caught my eye as it’s being performed in my home town! Lila Dance is becoming one of the fastest growing dance companies in the UK and their new performance is centred around the sea. After an earthquake, a huge wave is on its way to destroying your town. Four main characters ask the community what has already been lost, and if there is anything left to lose? With four central dancers, a supporting cast and an “evocative” soundtrack, this sounds like it’s worth dumping Netflix for.
